This study investigates how the school library can be visualized through the social media platform Instagram. This is done through a qualitative content analysis of 362 posts that were shared from 1 August 2016 to 31 December 2019. The main focus was to look at how the school library uses the medium to market itself as well as to look at how the main tasks and roles of the school library are represented in the communication. The theoretical perspective is a mixture of the four spaces model as presented by Jochumsen et al. (2012) and the school library and its dimensions made known by Limberg (1990). The combined model comprises of five different spaces that together make up the school library as a concept. The results show that all of the five spaces are represented in the material that has been published on Instagram, but in different proportions with learning taking the largest place in the communication. The study also shows that the picture that is being presented of the library shows it in a traditional way, with a large emphasis being on its role in supporting and stimulating pupils reading. Some important factors are nevertheless missing in how the school library is shown, for example the importance of it being involved in teaching. This study can be regarded and used as an example of how a school library can be presented and visualized through the medium.
