Inventory management : Minimize capital tied up through item classsification (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Problems with overproduction can arise and create problems when storage spaces are limited but also because items bind too much capital. The approach to reduce capital tied up and overproduction in this report is an article classification in the form of an ABC analysis. The ABC classifications have been made for the items in the company's finished goods inventory, which should be able to provide an indication and better decision basis for which products should be kept in stock, and which items can be disposed of to reduce capital tied up. The articles have been classified according to the criteria sampling frequency per year and volume value. Inventory costs have been analyzed and a formula for inventory interest has been developed.

Blomdahl wants to reduce the company's capital tied up by 15 percent. By analyzing the current situation, it could be observed that Blomdahls has many stocked products. Many of these have not been consumed for a long time which has resulted in a large proportion of inventory costs. The report resulted in a recommendation to review groups of products to alternatively discard or sell. If the products that are recommended to be thrown away were discarded, large amounts of capital could be released, even more than what is required in the target formulation.
