Collaborative fashion consumption : A study about the motives and barriers that affect the adaption of access-based consumption of children’s wear. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of the study is to examine the aspects that consumers in Sweden take into account when consuming children's clothing and to look at which motives and barriers that can promote or obstruct the adaptation of access-based consumption. The chosen topic is based on the limited amount of existing research about access-based consumption of children's wear. The survey was conducted with the help of a questionnaire study where both quantitative and qualitative data was collected. The quantitative data was analysed in SPSS and a qualitative content analysis was made based on the qualitative data. The results show that the aspects that are most important when consuming children's clothing are: the Seller's Reliability; Clear Information from the Supplier; Availability; the Condition of the Garment and the Price of the Product. The results also show that barriers to adaptation of access-based consumption are that: several consumers prefer to sell and/or buy children's clothing second-hand; several consumers inherit clothes for the children and that there is a concern about the terms and conditions that apply to rental services. According to the results of the study, the motives that potentially can promote the establishment of access-based consumption of children's clothing are linked to environmental sustainability, that the period of use of children's clothing is short, and they are rarely worn out before they are outgrown. The survey's conclusion is that the results are largely in line with what previous research in access-based consumption shows. The study is written in Swedish.
