The purpose of this essay is to investigate how the Swedish Society for Nature Concervation’s teaching materials contribute to successfull teaching in sustainable development. This investigation is made through a text analysis and strives to answer the following questions: How is sustainable development conveyed in the teaching material ”Energy Case” which is aimed för grades kindergarten throuh grade 3 in primary school? In what way has the teaching material taken into account the democratic values of teaching based on Dewey’s theory of education and democracy? Results have been linked to previous research and the Deweyan theory and show that the teaching material is created according to the Swedish school laws and learning standards. The lesson-plans offered aim to mediate knowledge and experience that meet the learning goals for climate, environment and sustainability and they are designed to be used according to the democratic values in structured learning environments.
