The purpose of this study is to find out how preschools promote the language development of children by using reading aloud of children's literature and also by finding out which aids are being used when reading aloud.

This study is about the preschool's work with reading aloud of children's literature for a language development purpose. The study is made to get an insight into the preschools' working methods with children's literature and reading aloud. The starting points of this study has been the sociocultural theory written by Vygotskij.

This study was performed using a qualitative research method involving the use of interviews of preschool teachers as a way of answering the different questions in the study.We have interviewed five different preschool teachers working at two different preschools in two different municipalities in the south of Sweden.

The results of this study show that preschools use reading aloud of children's literature to promote children's language development. The preschool teachers work continuously with reading aloud and the children's literature proved to be used for a knowledge development purpose. Various aids are used by the preschool teachers during reading aloud to clarify the content and increase the children's understanding of new words and concepts.

Syftet med denna studie är att ta reda på hur förskollärare arbetar med barnlitteratur i förskolans verksamheter, vilka hjälpmedel som nyttjas och hur högläsning av barnlitteratur används för att främja barns språkutveckling utifrån ett sociokulturellt perspektiv.

Denna studie handlar om förskolans arbete med högläsning av barnlitteratur i ett språkutvecklande syfte. Studien är gjord för att få en inblick i förskolors arbetssätt med barnlitteratur och högläsning. I studien har den sociokulturella teorin som Vygotskij företräder varit i fokus.

Studien utfördes med en kvalitativ forskningsmetod där intervju som metod har använts för att besvara syftets frågeställningar. Intervjufrågorna har ställts till fem förskollärare på två olika förskolor i två olika kommuner i södra Sverige.

Resultatet i denna studie visar att förskolorna använder sig av högläsning av barnlitteratur för att främja barns språkutveckling. Förskollärarna arbetar kontinuerligt med högläsning och barnlitteraturen visade sig användas i ett kunskapsutvecklande syfte. Olika hjälpmedel används av förskollärarna vid högläsning för att förtydliga innehållet och öka barnens förståelse för nya ord och begrepp.
