The contemporary significance in the critique against government funded literary grants : How tradition and renewal is expressed in the debate about The Swedish Arts Council’s literary grants 2018 (English)
Abstract [en]

In this bachelor thesis I explore the contemporary critique against the Swedish Arts Councils literary grants in the form of a debate which took place in 2018. I intend to make comparisons with the different parties arguments using theories such as Belfiore & Bennetts (2007) taxonomy of different ideas and viewpoints on culture while also using Agambens (2014) theory about what makes something contemporary to try and pinpoint what makes the presented problems in this type of debate specific to our time. The purpose of the paper is to show how the critique in debates concerning culture tend to stay the same while making slight adjustments to the arguments to fit into a contemporary setting.
