Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This thesis examines how Swedish product development fashion companies work with sustainability in their purchasing process. The study looks at present and what opportunities there are to further implement sustainability in the purchasing processes in the studied companies. Furthermore, there is a focus on what risks are associated with the process and how these risks may influence the purchasing process and choices made. A qualitative study of six different companies has been performed in the form of personal communication, telephone and mail interviews as well as observations. The participating companies are in various sizes between just two employees to several thousand employees. This is to get a picture of how the procurement processes and the sustainability work might deviate depending on the size of the company. Purchasing processes are defined using the models "Purchasing processes" by Van Weele. Based on this model, the study describes how the companies work with sustainability in their purchasing process and how they view risks in the different steps of it. The result of the work in this thesis shows that companies to varying degrees have already implemented sustainability in their purchasing process. But according to the participating companies, there are good opportunities to increase the sustainability work in their purchasing. A conclusion the study leads to is that one way for companies to improve the implementation of sustainability could be by consciously increasing the sustainability in each step of the purchasing process, such as that one defined by Van Weele. Furthermore, the conclusions indicate that there is a connection between the risks that the companies experience in the purchasing process and further improvement of sustainability work, i.e. the risks might need to be reduced or controlled to be able to improve the sustainability work.
