This bachelors thesis explored first time reader's reactions to e-books. Focusing on how the new readers relationship to the printed book influenced their reading experience. Eight qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the empirical data for this thesis. The data has been analysed with a theme analysis with remediation used as the theoretical framework. The results of this study indicates that new readers find e-books practical and portable. Additionally, new readers, have a strong connection to the printed book. This connection affects their experience of reading in different ways. Many of the functions that are seen as negative with the e-book are functions that are described as positive in a printed book. The qualities and functions that the new readers appreciated the most with the e-book are the ones that are most different from the printed book. In situations that are not as strongly associated with the printed book, the e-book is generally perceived as a good alternative.
