University of Borås, Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business.
2019 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study is written in collaboration with a Swedish company in high-street fashion. The company has been experiencing problems with the fit in one of its sports bra models. The fitting problems are faulty balance between the front and back as well as not enough volume in the larger sizes of the size range. These problem does not occur in the smaller sizes and the company wants to examine why.

This study joins two basic patterns. The work is based on analysis of the pattern construction and measurement charts of the two size ranges, S-L and L-2XL, as well as the fabric properties and the placement of the pattern block on the fabric. The pattern grading is conducted in a CAD software and the fitting on two avatars in a 3D simulation software. The sewing of prototypes and fitting on two fitting models are done by the author. All the fittings are documented in a fitting protocol for analysis and evaluation of the result.

The result of this study shows improvement in balance between the front and back through the application of new grading values. And also, an improvement in volume through the placement of the pattern on either the course or wale direction of the fabric. This study has shown that the faulty balance between the front and back pattern is due to the grading values and distribution of these on the pattern.
