Abstract [sv]

Det svenska elkraftsystemet har länge varit ett stabilt system med god elkvalitet och räknats som ett av de bästa kraftsystemen i världen. En mycket viktig faktor för stabiliteten är de systemtjänster som kärnkraftverk ger tack vare sina stora och synkront kopplade generatorer. Med ökad installation av icke-synkrona väderberoende kraftverk och samtidig avveckling av kärnkraftverk minskar dessa systemtjänster till kraftsystemet.

Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka vilka bidragande egenskaper kärnkraftverk ger till kraftsystemet avseende stabiliteten i det nordiska kraftsystemet då andelen icke-synkron elproduktion ökar. Att veta vad som gör kraftsystemet stabilt är viktigt för att rätt beslut ska tas angående framtida elproduktion.

Resultatet från arbetet visar att kärnkraften har en stor betydelse för det nordiska kraftsystemets stabilitet. Kärnkraftverk bidrar med svängmassa, produktion och konsumtion av reaktiv effekt och effektdämpningar med sina dämpfunktioner. Det gör att kärnkraften bidrar till kraftsystemets frekvens-, spännings- och rotorvinkelstabilitet.

Vid nedläggning av kärnkraftverk ändras kraftsystemets förutsättningar och de systemtjänster som kärnkraften bidrar med till kraftsystemet försvinner. Detta måste beaktas vid beslut om framtida elproduktion.

Abstract [en]

The Swedish electric power system has for a long time been one of the best power systems in the world regarding stability and power quality. An important factor for the stability is the property of the large synchronous generators used in domestic nuclear power plants. With an increasing amount of non-synchronous electric production and decommissioning of nuclear power, the stabilizing properties are reduced.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine what contributing properties nuclear power plants have for the Nordic power system regarding stability in a situation with increasing amount of non-synchronous electric production. For future decisions it is of importance to know what causes stability in the power system.

The study shows that nuclear power plants have a large significance for stability in the Nordic power system. With their synchronous generators nuclear power plants contribute with rotational inertia, production and consumption of reactive power and dampening of power fluctuations. With these properties, nuclear power plants contribute to frequency, voltage and rotor angle stability in the power system.

As nuclear power plants are being shut down the conditions and properties of the power system is changed. For a continued stable and reliable power system, these changes must be recognized.
