Methane activity in sedimented digestate (English)
Abstract [sv]

Sedimenteringen utfördes i enlitersbägare under 24 timmar. Bildad metan analyserades i gaskromatograf.

Abstract [en]

Biogas production in Sweden is increasing every year. The digester at Sobacken, Borås, is fed with 130 m3 of sludge each day. In the future the capacity of the biogas plant could be increased by recirculating thickened digestate to the process. This study examines the possibility to sediment digestate without the addition of polymers and evaluates the methane activity in the phases that arise.  The sedimentation was carried out in beakers of one litres for 24 hours. The different phases were transferred to small reactors and substrate was added. Blanks without any added substrate were also prepared. The reactors were places in a stirred water bath at 53.5 °C. Produced methane was analyzed in a gas chromatograph.  The largest amount of methane was produced in the digestate and the smallest amount in the clear phase. If we had set up a new experiment using more substrate the results might have been different.
