The purpose of this Bachelor thesis is to gain insight into the meaning of the mobile library for its users by investigating who the users are, how they use the mobile library, why they use the mobile library and what the users want from the book bus service. The methods used are observations, survey study and qualitative interviews. The theoretical framework of the study is based on Andersson’s and Skot-Hansen’s model of the public library with its four different library profiles, together with Pierre Bourdieu´s lifestyle theory where habitus and the concept of cultural capital are used to analyze the role of the book bus in people’s lives. My conclusion is that the mobile library is very important to its users since reading is an important part of their lives and it gives them easy access to books of several genres. The mobile library also functions as a meeting place in the local community and creates a link between urban and rural areas.
