Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This research overview compiles and maps out the research area of students’ motivation to read. The studies that we have chosen to chart focus on the students’ own opinion on how they are motivated and how, according to the students, the teacher can encourage their desire to read. The purpose of this overview is to create an outline of the research area of inner motivators for reading narrative and expository books from a student perspective. The studies are charted according to selection, publication year, method and results. The results of this research overview indicate that the teacher has a very important role when it comes to motivating students. The results also show that the personal interests of the students as well as the opportunity to choose for themselves what they want to read are two of the most important inner motivators for wanting to read. This is something which research has shown for many decades as being of great importance to students.
