Abstract [en]

Nowadays, a wide variety of activities take place in homes. Personal spaces are used for working, exercising, relaxing, gathering, eating, sleeping and more. In addition, diverse textile objects surround users in everyday life and accompany them in these activities. This project aims at creating transformable indoor textiles that adapt to different functions to offer space and material saving solutions and bring more playfulness to the indoor space. The research was based on a simultaneous design approach, exploring weave constructions, transformable forms, patterns and colours as interdependent components. Tactility and visuals were used to indicate the manipulation and function of the pieces, and transformable forms were created using the weaving loom as a form-creating tool. The result consists of five transformable textile objects for different functions in a room. This research offers a new way to create transformable objects, utilising textiles’ tactile and visual features to stimulate the senses and create a deeper emotional connection with users.
