Abstract [en]

Even though traditional filling techniques are both functional and decorative today, the main use of the traditional filling technique (encapsulating of materials) is to be functional. The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibilities and potentials within the encapsulated filling technique. Though the method, Tales of our time‘ by J. Friggieri from Artistic Development in [Fashion] Design by Thornquist (2010, pg. 97), the two components that will meet in this study are filling technique and decoration.

What is presented in this work is an exploration of the encapsulated filling technique in the form of which materials are used and how these are used. Moreover, the effects of using decorative fabrics and objects as filling material while the traditional materials we usually hide becomes exposed. Resulting in ideas and presenting potentials for how the technique can be used to, for example, imitate a technique, create patterns and generate uncontrolled surfaces. Furthermore, this work aims to find new methods, expressions and explore the decorative potentials within the filling technique while questioning the hierarchy and value of the materials.
