Abstract [en]

How can a textile designer use twisting of yarns as a technique to create a color gradient? This degree work positions itself in the field of textile design, more specifically in weaving, color blending, twisting of yarns and form. The work explores a combination of different techniques such as twisting of yarns, weaving, color blending and form with a focus on color gradients. Through a hands on method, exploration was carried out using two textile techniques. Twisting of yarns and weaving. The work shows that it is possible to work with color blending through the twisting of yarns and how colors interact with each other. The work investigates how different twists per meter affects the surface design of a woven fabric. The decision to work with color gradients was made to show the width of the technology and how many different color shades that can actually be obtained by working with the twist. A flexibility and construction investigation are made during the process where the medium density boards are used as a filling material. The result are three woven color gradient objects which can be shaped in different ways, which means that they can be adapted to fit into different environments and used for different purposes. The aim is to explore color gradients through yarn twisting, weaving and form. The conclusion of the work is that it is possible to work with an alternative color blending method (twisting of yarns) in the weaving. Where different color transitions can be created. Either with a smooth color transition or a striped one. The expression and characteristics of the shapes also changes depending on the size of the medium density boards.
