Filterbubblor: en användarstudie om information och nyhetskonsumtion online

Filter bubbles : a user study on information and news consumption online (English)
Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to gain knowledge about how users relate to filter bubbles in their news consumption and information behaviour online. Do the users have any knowledge about filter bubbles, and does the knowledge effect the way they use the internet? The empirical material was gathered through a cross-sectional study where structured interviews were conducted with 57 people. Underlying the study is the theory of media literacy, as defined by Potter (2001) and his criteria for being media literate. The theory have been used when analysing the results, as a way of finding out how media literate the users in the study are. The result shows that not only was there variation in the users knowledge about filter bubbles, there is variation in the opinions about filter bubbles as well. These variations are not limited to the users in the study, but are also found in earlier studies done on the subject. Based on the findings of this study, suggestions for other studies have been made.
